Music Studio Aquarium
Completed in collaboration with specialist studio designers Flavio Acoustics, this project centred around a bespoke aquarium integrated directly into the rear wall of a private studio for a leading UK recording artist.
The brief was to introduce a meaningful connection with nature into a highly controlled creative environment without compromising the acoustic performance of the space. The result was a custom-built 3 metre aquarium forming the centrepiece of a 4,500-litre freshwater system, designed to provide an immersive experience during both recording sessions and day-to-day studio use.
Believed to be the first aquarium of its kind to be integrated into a professional recording studio in the UK, the project required the development of a bespoke acoustic glazing system incorporating a vacuum cavity to minimise sound transmission whilst maintaining exceptional visual clarity.
Beyond its visual impact, the installation was conceived as a living feature that contributes to the atmosphere of the studio, introducing a sense of calm within a normally technology-driven environment. Housing a variety of African Cichlids and supported by a dedicated plant room, the system combines advanced life support infrastructure with a carefully curated aquatic environment.
This project demonstrates how living systems can be successfully integrated into specialist interiors and creative spaces.
