LiFE Gallery
LiFE Gallery was a public exhibition created by ViDERE to explore the relationship between nature, design, art, and human wellbeing.
Hosted in Birmingham between 2019 and 2020, the exhibition brought together a collection of nature aquariums, aquascapes, botanical displays, natural materials, and original artwork, all curated around a central question: how can we create stronger connections with nature in the spaces where we live, and work?
The gallery was designed to challenge conventional perceptions of aquariums, presenting them not simply as hobbies or decorative features, but as living works of art capable of influencing how people feel, think, and experience their environment. Through a combination of exhibitions, talks, workshops, and industry events, LiFE Gallery introduced visitors to the principles of biophilic design and explored the growing body of evidence linking nature-inspired environments with improved wellbeing.
The 2020 exhibition also provided a platform to share the findings from ViDERE's Workplace Stress Study, helping generate discussion around the role living ecosystems can play within commercial, healthcare, hospitality, and residential environments. Sponsored by leading furniture and interior brands, the event attracted designers, architects, business leaders, and members of the public, creating a unique forum for conversations around nature, sustainability, and human-centred design.
More than an exhibition, LiFE Gallery represented an important milestone in ViDERE's journey. It marked the point at which our work expanded beyond aquarium design alone and began exploring the broader relationship between art, nature, and the human experience — a philosophy that continues to shape our projects today.
